Know Warning Signs Of A Stroke

Heart disease is the No. 2 killer in South Carolina. Strokes are the No. 4 killer. The state’s high rankings in those categories has placed it part of an 11-state region known as the Stroke Belt.

Those are alarming rankings, but there is another statistic that’s important to note. Up to 80 percent of strokes could be prevented if people managed chronic diseases, like diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol better, according to the American Stroke Association.

The ninth annual Greenville Health System Minority Health Summit takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the TD Convention Center.

This year’s theme is focusing on knocking out strokes and heart disease. Laila Ali, a world boxing champion, television personality and daughter of boxing legend and humanitarian Muhammad Ali, will be our keynote speaker. The event will also include a panel discussion and exercise demonstrations.
